Basic Instructions:
1. Before you begin, make sure pots are free of dust and dirt, and thoroughly dry.
Begin your project by mixing Geranium Red, Sunshine Yellow, and Cloud White to achieve a light peach
color. Using the 1" brush, base coat both pots, inside and out. Several coats
may be needed for complete coverage. Allow to dry thoroughly between coats, and
before stenciling on the ivy design.
2. Next, clip the
arched Paint-A-Pot designs out of the background plastic, spray with stencil
adhesive and arrange on the side of the pot and rim. Use the low tack masking tape
to keep the edges secure against the pot.
3. Load a 3/8" brush with Pine Green and remove most of the paint to achieve the "dry
brush" needed to apply small amounts of paint without having it "bleed"
under the edges of the stencil.
4. After you've
applied a coat of Pine Green, lightly dab brush into the Cloud White and Sunshine Yellow
and add highlights to the ivy by randomly "pouncing" brush across the design.
5. When you've completed one side
of the pot, carefully remove the stencil, allow the design to completely dry, then
reposition the stencils to the opposite side of the pot and begin again.
6. After you have painted both pots and
they are dry, it's time to cut the styrofoam to fit inside each pot. Invert the pots
onto the styrofoam and trace. With a utility knife, carefully cut out the circles
and taper down the sides so that they will fit into each of the pots approximately
¼" below the top of the rim.
7. Next, in the center of the 6"
piece of styrofoam, cut a hole that is slightly smaller than the candle you are using.
Gently push the candle up through the bottom of the styrofoam piece that fits into the
6" pot. (If you find that your candle is too tall, you can cut off a section from
the bottom of the candle as it will not show).
8. Arrange the silk ivy pieces into the
styrofoam and stack the smaller pot on top of the larger pot. Some adjustments may
be necessary to straighten the look.
*Please note: Anytime you intend to use the painted pots
for live plants, always coat the entire pot with non-yellowing, clear
polyurethane.
