Instructions:
1. Assemble 2 each 10 x 30 frames and 1 each 22 x 30 frame.
Glue corner together with wood glue
2. Cut mesh 1/2 larger than inside opening of
each frame. Staple onto frame.
3. Measure trim molding to fit around screen on inside edge. Miter corners if
desired. Use finishing nails and hammer to attach over screen and through
frame. Fill in nails holes with wood filler.
4. Lay a piece of wax paper, larger than stencil, onto work surface. Secure corners
of stencil to wax paper with masking tape. Put the joint
compound onto applicator
tool (provided in kit) and squeegee over the portion of the design you wish to use, about
1/4 thick. Carefully lift up stencil while wet.
5. Pick up wax paper and place design face down onto mesh screen. You want to do
this while the joint compound is wet so that the design will stick to the mesh. Gently push
in place and leave wax paper on until it is dry. Remove wax paper. Repeat
with as many designs as needed for screen. May take overnight. Hint: If
you place a paper pattern under the mesh, you will be able to align the stencil on the
front of the mesh.
6. When dry, peel off wax paper. Attach hinges and ornamental wood piece if
desired. Spray paint all three pieces, including mesh with black paint. Allow to
dry.
7. Pour some rust and copper acrylic paint into palette. Dip sea sponge into water
and wring out. Dip sea sponge into copper paint and blot on paper towels.
Lightly brush on wood frame and designs. Then do the same with rust paint
to desired antique rust look.
